Teen Named Homecoming Queen

 Bethesda, Md

                  Sixteen year-old Alexis Hanford was on vacation this summer in California. She was jumping into a lake and she cut her leg on a tree. Doctors were able to take out the wood and splinters and stitched her leg up. A few days later her leg started swelling and bruising and eventually burst. She went through a total of seventeen surgeries to remove dead tissue. "The infection was successfully eradicated, but Alexis – a former soccer player – must still use a wheelchair while she learns to walk again and will always have to use a small brace." Now, despite the fact that just a few short months ago she had a deadly, flesh eating bacteria, she was named her school's homecoming queen
